Immigration

Noah Smith and Pew Research Center (Tommy Hoyos)
March 2023

Is America welcoming enough immigrants? On what basis should immigrants be permitted into the country? Is there a maximum absorption rate? What is the counter-argument to immigration, and to what extent is it valid?

We explored these questions and more in a discussion that was based around Noah Smith's The US cannot afford to turn against immigration and Pew Research Center immigration stats.

We touched on immigration selectivity (random lottery, skills-based, pay-to-play). Whether a state-based solution might be best (within some broad federal constraints). And explored the legitimate motivations why some segments of society might fear and oppose more immigration.
